Home again
Well, I made it back intact from Sanibel and I know I promised a report on our two main adventures (well 3 really). The day we arrived we took a detour to the Edison-Ford estate & musuem just outside Ft. Myers. It was simpy astounding...the grounds, the gardens...Edison even had a lab on the premises where he tested / grew certain plants. That was adventure # 1.Adventure #2 was a day later....we drove down to Corkscrew Swamp...just east of Naples. Over 6000 acres with more being added. We strolled the 2.5 mile trail and saw air plants, orchids, bird life, butterflies, hawks, vultures...you name it. The drought had seriously affected the water level but I still would not have missed if for the world. Adventure #3 was a hoot. We had seen a website for the Everglade Wonderland and decided it was a must. We thought, based on the advertising, that it would be as large as the Corkscrew Swamp and we would take a tram through the acreage and see flamingos, gators, birds, snakes, cougars....the works. What we got was....well, have you ever driven I-95 South and seen those signs for "Pedro's South of the Border"?. Enough said.It is a beautiful Sunday morning here in Charleston and I plan to take full advantage of the day. Hope you can do the same, wherever you are.
