... and it's a divisive issue in the coming Town Council elections here on the Isle of Palms.

I'm a lifelong resident here on the IOP, so my long view is that the beach changes every few years. Much like real estate activity in general, I expect the beach to improve in the coming months and years. But some are pretty nervous, understandably.

This New York Times article does a good job of assessing the situation on several Atlantic beaches.
