The Isle of Palms recently held a contentious election for four City Council seats. For weeks there was quite a bit of mudslinging, recanting of promises, a lot of he said, she said, and then...the vote. Three incumbents were ousted and one retained his seat. The elected are: Ryan Buckhannon (the sole incumbent), Brian Duffy, Michael Loftus and Ralph Piening. All four of the winners have pledged to do something about the erosion that plagues the north end of the island.
A City of Isle of Palms beach management plan is now in front of the Corps of Engineers for approval, and the engineers hired by the The Wild Dunes Community Association have submitted their report to the CA, outlining both a short term and long term solution to the erosion. My hope is that a permit request will be forthcoming.
I'll keep you posted so keep checking here or give me a call.

... and it's a divisive issue in the coming Town Council elections here on the Isle of Palms.
I'm a lifelong resident here on the IOP, so my long view is that the beach changes every few years. Much like real estate activity in general, I expect the beach to improve in the coming months and years. But some are pretty nervous, understandably.
This New York Times article does a good job of assessing the situation on several Atlantic beaches.

Everyone loves the beach, and Mother Nature is no exception. Over the past few years she has been taking her normal "bite" at our sand dunes in the winter and, unfortunately, continuing her feast on our shoreline in the summer. The result is that Wild Dunes has experienced severe erosion at the north end of the island, affecting the Links golf course, condominiums and homes. It is not a pretty picture.
As always, there are at least two sides to every situation, and this is no exception. Do we renourish the beach and protect owners' and Destinations Wild Dunes' properties, or let Mother Nature have her way? This question is hotly debated, and whatever the decision, Mother Nature is not waiting around to hear it.
I'll keep you posted. This isn't going away.

Greetings!
Well, summer may just be behind us. Mark and I have shut down the AC today, opened up the windows and have a strong breeze blowing through the house. It is wonderful and hopefully here to stay.
However, the stong northeast wind has not been kind to our beach. As many of you know, the north end of the island has been experiencing erosion that has affected some of the condominimum neighborhoods at Wild Dunes and the 18th fairway of the Links course. There has been a lot of discussion and information...and as it happens hearing something 3rd or 4th hand, some misinformation. With that in mind, I am including
this link to the best information I have seen recently. Please give me a call if you have any questions after you read through it.
