Mark and I head to Sanibel Island in southwest Florida for the latter half of December every year. The house we stay in backs up to a wonderful nature preserve, it's close to the Gulf and the temperatures are usually warm. This week it's been high 70's with no rain (though Florida needs some rain, like much of the Southeast).
We spend a lot of time catching up on work projects. There I am in the photo at our command and control center in the loft area of the house. And I also use the quiet days to catch up on some reading. First up for me this season was
Ann Patchett's Bel Canto, a fascinating novel about terrorists, hostages, the Stockholm Syndrome, love and music.
My next reading, however, is more work-related, and I can't wait to begin.
The Referral of a Lifetime is a short, simple little
Ken Blanchard-type of book. (In fact, it's from what's called the "Ken Blanchard Series.") And it speaks to the way I've tried to work my real estate practice for the last, oh, 20 years or so.
I don't intend to do a book report for you afterwards, but I figure you'll be able to see for yourself if the book influences me in 2008 and beyond.
